A beginner’s guide to Twitter

If you’ve not already got a Twitter account, you’ll need to register to take part.

To register:
Go to http://twitter.com

Hit the orange button on the right that says ‘Give it a try’

Fill in the boxes with your name, your username (the public name that everyone else on Twitter will know you by), your password and your email address. Hit ‘Create my account’

To sign in with your account:
Go to http://twitter.com

Hit the ‘sign in’ button at the top-right of the page, and enter your username and password

To follow @comedyhighlight:

At the top right of the page, click ‘find people’. Enter ‘comedyhighlight’ and click ‘search.

Click the first button on the right (when you hover over it, it will say ‘follow comedyhighlight’)

Click ‘home’ at the top right of the page to take you back to your homepage

To tweet your joke:

In the white box at the top of the page, type in your joke. You’ll also need to include #win100 for it to be entered into the competition. Remember, it has to be 140 characters or fewer

Once you’re done, click the grey ‘Tweet’ button underneath the white box

You can enter as many times as you like, but if someone’s already told your joke, you’ll need to think of something else for your entry to be counted.

1. The prize is £100.
2. Entry to the competition is by following @comedyhighlight, and posting a joke to twitter.com, including the hashtag #win100 by the competition’s closing date. If the hashtag #win100 has not been used and the entrant is not following @comedyhighlight at the time of the judging, the entry will not be considered.
3. Jokes must be deemed clean and inoffensive by the highlight Comedy team to be considered for the prize. Offensive or rude material will be reported to Twitter, and not considered for entry to the competition.
4. All entrants must be UK residents and aged 18 or over (proof of age will be required from the competition winner).
5. All jokes must be contained within one tweet that includes the hashtag #win100
6. We reserve the right to exclude entries we suspect of being bulk or automated.
7. The promoter accepts no responsibility for entries not successfully completed due to a technical fault.
8. The competition will run on a weekly basis. Entries must be received between 9am Monday and 12pm Friday to be considered (all times are BST).
9. Each week, the single joke that made the judge laugh the most will be considered the winner. The judge will be a member of the highlight Comedy team, or someone appointed by them. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
10. In the case of the same joke being entered by multiple entrants, only the first entry will be selected.
11. The winner will be contacted by the highlight Comedy press office to notify them of winning.
12. In asking people to share their favourite joke, we’re not insisting that people create their own material as, on a practical level, this would be impossible to police. We simply ask that entrants pass on something they’ve heard that’s funny. However, we do understand the concerns of comedians in allowing entrants to submit jokes that they didn’t write, so if a comedian can prove to us by an hour after the closing time (Friday, 1pm) that one of their own jokes has been entered by someone else, we will discount that joke from entry to the competition.
13. iNTERTAIN Limited bears no responsibility for issues surrounding copyright of any jokes or material entered into the competition
14. Full-time employees of iNTERTAIN Limited and their families are not eligible to enter.
15. The prize will be paid to the winner by cheque or bank transfer within 30 days of notification, unless advised otherwise.
16. The winner must be prepared to give their address details to highlight Comedy or its agencies in order to receive their cheque.
17. iNTERTAIN Limited reserves the right to cancel or amend the competition or any of these rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
