The Kooks at highlight Camden!

On 16th August indie music giants The Kooks (who need no further introduction!) played an intimate gig to an excited crowd of 500 at highlight’s Camden Dingwalls venue.
The Kooks performed a mix of old and new ahead of the release of their new album ‘Junk of the Heart’ on 12th September, kicking off the evening with hit single ‘Always Where’ (from their second album ‘Konk’) and moving on to a mix of nostalgia and anticipation for their upcoming tour.
The crowd were then treated to an exclusive preview of no less than six new tracks from the new album, including the effervescent Is It Me (released September 4th).
The atmosphere was immense. It’s not every day you’re given the opportunity to stand feet away from a world-renowned band while they perform brand new material, so when such an opportunity arises (as it sometimes does at the legendary Camden venue) it’s not one to be passed up!
Last summer, the strokes performed a secret gig in our Camden Dingwalls venue under the alias ‘Venison’, and in February the legendary Foo Fighters took to the stage for yet another underground gig.
We’ve been fortunate enough to host some truly incredible live music acts, but have you been fortunate enough to catch them?
highlight bring you live music like never before, taking gigs to a new, more intimate level and bringing you up-close and personal with your favourite bands. To experience the thrill of these amazing live music events, make sure you know what’s coming up near you – or you could miss the gig of a lifetime!

An exclusive interview with Bobby Davro

We’ve had a behind-the-scenes catch up with comedy legend Bobby Davro as he gets set to launch his stand up tour at highlight venues across the UK.
Bobby is a renowned comedian, having soared to fame in the 1980’s with TV shows such as Bobby Davro on the Box and Bobby's Sketch Pad, before joining the BBC to make Rock with Laughter among other hugely popular shows.
More recently, though, Bobby has starred in East Ender’s (as Vinnie Monks) and has even appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Dancing On Ice, though he is most famed for his hilarious work as an impressionist..
With just two weeks to go until the first set of his new live tour, Bobby is itching to tell us – and you - just why he’s looking forward to entertaining live at highlight.
What is the inspiration behind your highlight comedy tour?
“People will be surprised by this tour. I’m fed up of being pigeon-holed as an old-fashioned comedian, so I want to get out there and show people I’m still current. I’m still doing impressions and singing but they’re modern impressions, and lots of people aren’t aware that I sing”.
What can highlight audiences expect to see?
“Aside from my stand-up act, there will be singing and impressions of the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, Michael Bublé, Sting and Jonathan Ross. There are very few people that are good at impressions and have an entertaining act. I have an act – that’s the only thing that’s old fashioned about me. This tour gives me a chance to work in a different environment. With maturity you can entertain any audience. This show isn’t full of bad language, but it’s definitely for over 18s. It’s very different to how you might think of a Bobby Davro performance. That’s not to say its offensive, but it’s more grown up than you’d think”.
Do you still enjoy touring?
“I love touring. It gives me a chance to show people what I’m made of. I’m trying to change the perception of comedians like myself through the highlight tour and I’d love to tour again”.
Who are your biggest influences?
“Contemporary comedians because of their energy and use of observational material. But I still find Jim Davidson very funny – so old and new influences. I don’t get off-the-wall humour; I like a beginning, middle and an end – a proper joke. That makes me stand apart today in a world where everyone’s observational”.
Who is your favourite comic today?
“Robin Williams – I met him last year when he did a fantastic gig at the Prince’s Trust. He was a lovely bloke”.
You can see Bobby’s tour live at highlight venues across the UK from 4th August to 29th September. Tickets are available online now and from the highlight box office on 0844 844 0044.
